Newsletter #2

As we now come to the end of week 2, it is great to see the fantastic uptake for #restartsailing, with so many of the sailing community wanting to come together and help the sport get through this awful situation. The Facebook Group now has over 600 members with over 80 clubs and classes involved. In addition, we have a growing involvement from other stakeholders such as the trade and of course many sailors who want to help.

We are seeing some encouraging words coming out of the RYA, ahead of The Prime Minister's anticipated announcement on Sunday of an easing of the lock down and a road map of the way forward. It has been widely reported today that the "Stay at Home" message is being stood down, with Government websites being updated this weekend. With new guidelines imminent, the hard work now starts, with lots of activity needed to plan for adaptations that sailing needs to make to be able to operate safely in this New World.

Task Groups - we need your help

There is a considerable amount of work to get sailing back and racing resumed safely. Fortunately there are plenty of good materials emerging and enthusiasm from numerous sources to make things happen. We have now established 9 Focus Task Groups with the view of understanding the impact of the Covid19 restrictions on various areas relevant to a sailing club's operation of racing. These individual groups will then produce specific material and activities that can be tailored to each club's needs.

The plan is to have smaller groups addressing specific issues. These groups will meet through Zoom or similar networks to expedite potential solutions.

We have already had around 20 people sign up, but we need more help to share the workload, the more people able to help and take on small tasks, the more likely we are able to turn around this massive project in a few weeks.

Survey

Thank you for all those who have completed the survey (52 at time of writing), there are some great responses coming through, highlighting the many different challenges we are all facing, but encouragingly some fantastic ideas are emerging on the way forward.

RYA submission

#restartsailing has been asked to submit a paper to the RYA Race Management Committee on the Covid19 situation, our initial survey will form the basis of this, if anyone has any particular points they wish to be raised, please email and we will endeavour to incorporate.
